Let me guess – learning online isn’t exactly what you’d like to be doing with your time.
While it may not initially appear particularly exciting, you can make it work for you and even enjoy it with the right approach.
Here’s some of our best ideas to help you get the most out of your eLearning experience.
Set clear goals
Before getting stuck into the training, ask yourself – What do I want to achieve? Do I want to step up into a managerial role? Do I need to brush up on my knowledge of the latest updates to sexual harassment regulations?
Whatever it is, knowing your objectives keeps you on track, so write them down!
Trust us – having a clear purpose will save you from mindlessly clicking through modules that have absolutely no relevance to your role.
Create a schedule
One of the perks of eLearning is flexibility, but without a schedule, it’s easy to let things slip.
Set aside time for your learning sessions each week, and treat them like any important meeting.
Maybe you want something to do while sipping your morning coffee or something to do in those 15 minutes between client meetings. Consistency is key to making real progress.
Also, learn in chunks rather than trying to absorb everything in one sitting. Breaking down the content into smaller, digestible pieces can be more effective.
Stay engaged
As tempting as it may be to put the training video on, set it to double speed and just let it play in the background (come on, we’ve all done it) – passive learning won’t cut it.
Participate in quizzes, discussions, and any interactive parts of the course.
The more you engage, the better you’ll understand the material and retain the information.
If something during your training is confusing or unclear – just ask! Whether it’s your peers, your manager, the training provider or even the internet. The information is out there to help you understand.
Apply what you learn
What’s the point in learning these new updates or skills if you don’t put them to use?
So, put your new knowledge into practice, whether in your work or personal life.
It’s the best way to reinforce your skills and boost your confidence.
After all, practice makes perfect!
Following these tips will maximise your eLearning experience and turn it into a more productive and enjoyable part of your professional development.
